NEW ORLEANS -- As BP inched closer to permanently sealing the blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico, congressional investigators railed the company and Coast Guard for part of the cleanup effort, saying too much toxic chemical dispersant was used.

The investigators said the U.S. Coast Guard routinely approved BP requests to use thousands of gallons of chemical a day to break up the oil in the Gulf, despite a federal directive to use the dispersant rarely. The Coast Guard approved 74 waivers over a 48-day period after the Environmental Protection Agency order, according to documents reviewed by the investigators. Only in a small number of cases did the government scale back BP's request.

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., released a letter Saturday that said instead of complying with the EPA restriction, "BP often carpet bombed the ocean with these chemicals and the Coast Guard allowed them to do it."

7/11 - 1515 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park, TX 78613-3607

Several late nights (after midnight) I would make my trek to 7/11 to buy stamps, cat food, et cetera.

A gaggle of very personable young employees from 18-22 would greet me.

They all were surrounded by their boyfriends and co-workers (from other shifts). They would gather in front for their nightly cigarette break.

I did not care that their off-the-clock fellow employees were helping them stock the shelves. I didn't care that their boyfriends were helping them stock the shelves, mop the floor. I did not even care that employees from different shifts who were not on the clock would go behind the counter, ring up their own cigarettes and then walk away as if they were in their own home.

I would tell them they could get in trouble. But alas, I am not their boss. Just a "regular" customer who shops at this 7/11 several times a day, over 6 times per week.

What did bother me, however, was their NOT carding, asking for, looking at IDs of people who bought cigarette. Whether or not the purchaser was a friend, a peer, or a stranger from Tibet - most companies have a policy to card anyone who looks under the age of 40 or 30 or even 100.

Regardless, it is illegal to sell to minors. Not to card is foolish.

Did you know, even if you were over 18 and legally able to buy cigarettes, that if you did not have your ID on you to present to the clerk, LEGALLY, they cannot sell you cigarettes (carry your license or ID).

I needed stamps again, so this morning I went in. I talked to the Manager/Owner. He was telling me his employees were asking to have me banned (he said this three times). I told him what they were doing. He said do not tell them, tell him. I told him it all is on his own store video.

He said he told his employees he would not ban me.

EXCUSE ME. Obviously this grown man and owner of this franchised 7/11 did or did not realize his employees wanted me banned because I was spoiling their party.

It did not settle into his head that I was telling his employees AND him - laws were being broken.

PARENT - an employer checks references for employees. PARENTS - check references on an employer. This 7/11 has had previous arrests of employees selling to minors. If a manager turns the other way while your young daughter or son is selling cigarettes or alcohol to minors - well, will they walk away when your son or daughter is jailed? Will they help pay the bond? Court costs? NO. But, employers who turn their backs on illegal sales of items to minors ARE liable to you in a civil court. If they allowed your son/daughter to sell illegally to minors, it does not erase their responsibility, but it will help you get money to pay your kids fines.

WHAT TO DO?
I immediately filed a report with the Cedar Park Police and the Office of the District Attorney and TABC.

Most likely there will be a sting. Or perhaps a subpoena to see the videos. Or TABC will contact them.

It is hard enough to raise young teenagers and young adults - but when you can't even trust their employers will do right by them by enforcing proper work ethics AND most importantly, abiding by the law - well, it is time to move on.

I will NEVER step foot into this haven for illegal activities again.

Maybe I won't have to.

Responsible citizens and the authorities will most likely close it down and/or jail the owner and the kids responsible.

You also indicate that such information is of public record and you gave the Mayor 72 hours to comply or you will go to the press.You are absolutely correct that salary information of public officials is a public record. The City of Cedar Park does not pay its Council members a salary and therefore there is no record to provide. On your 72 hour requirement State law gives any municipality 10 business days to determine if it wants to assert to the Attorney General, that the request is invalid. Harassment by State and Federal Law is not telling an employee of any Retail Store that "I will have you fired."

If a person believes they received poor customer service, a customer can relate their feelings. It is protected by the first Amendment of the United States.

On Sunday, July 25, 2010, approximately 10:45 pm, employee Nathan Teets indicated as per Rhonda Ramos, Tiger Mart would no longer be able to offer me customer service.

Nathan indicated that both he and Rhonda were harassed. I asked him how? "By telling us you were going to have us fired." was his response.

I have sent a notarized copy of this letter to Tiger Mart / Exxon Corporate Office and the District Attorney, Cedar Park and the State of Texas. I am seeking legal action and will pursue this in Civil Court.

On its face, this is discrimination.

I also believe that I have witnessed Tiger Mart employees, during all shifts, selling cigarets - in my estimation - to minors. These customers were never asked for any type of identification. Tiger Mart CANNOT sell cigarets to minors or those without proper legal identification.

Additionally, on graveyard, Nathan Teets has also had his friend sitting on counters, near the office door as well as Nathan, on many occasions, has been in front of the store smoking cigarets.

Verification can be viewed on Tiger Mart's own video-cameras.

Democrats insist it is un-American to disagree with the signing of the Obama-care law.

I thought in America - you had the right to voice your opinion.

Democrats seem to believe that illegal aliens are more American - have more rights than "legal" Americans ...

There was an American Revolution.

For good or bad - ALL societies, all countries - all NATIONS have evolved through change - whether it be by the voice of the people or the actions of the people.

It would be sad, however, for a change or an upheaval of the current government system to be realized via violence.

A war within would not help anyone.

A war of words, however, for good or bad - politically correct or incorrect - YES - let that stand. There are two sides to every issue. There can be TWO rights. Just because a person disagree with you - does NOT make you wrong. Your opinion is not invalidated by another opinion.

Stand firm.

Believe what you believe.

Otherwise - walk away - change the channel.

What you CANNOT walk away from is the FACT that Americans ARE demanding change.

Oddly, EBAY allows buyers to rant and rave in their "feedback" regarding their purchase. Whether it be true or false, accurate or inaccurate. Yet, since EBAY now ONLY allows a Seller to leave Positive Feedback for a Seller it is a bit fraudulent.

If you try to leave negative feedback for a buyer - EBAY instantly steps in and indicates you have gone against their policy.

Their policy is that you cannot be honest and express yourself regarding your interaction with a Buyer. EBAY censors your opinion, your honesty.

EBAY disregards the anti-trust law, i.e., EBAY owns Paypal. Paypal is the method which Buyers pay the Seller. EBAY charges the Seller to list, then takes a percentage of each sale and then Paypal charges the Seller to accept the money from the Buyer.

EBAY is allowed to violate Federal Anti-Trust Laws. EBAY is allowed to violate Constitutional rights.

BUT - not for long - several Attorney Generals, Consumer Affairs - in (so far) six States are have lawsuits pending regarding EBAY's violation of Constitutional Rights and Federal Law.

The same day you glance at Walgreens Sunday color ads - out of stock.
Cashiers are clueless. "Our next delivery is Tuesday!"
Then why advertise? Why should customers go for bogus ads? YOU tell me.
You've wasted your time, your gas - and you leave pissed off.
And not ONE employee seems to care.
I email Corporate, General Managers and then - the Manager of the Store tells me to tell him first. I told him: "I've told all your employees. They should tell you. Should I seek you out to let you know you are in-efficient?"
Mind boggling.
SAD, too.
Overall, Walgreens is an iconic institution - however, this particular location is bringing down the Walgreens name.
Shop at Randalls across the Street. 7/11 - also across the street may be a little higher in price, but at least they have the items in stock (and the store is a lot smaller).
Go figure.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - EBay Inc (EBAY.O) forecast results for the fourth quarter at the low end of Wall Street estimates, disappointing investors who were hoping for a substantial turnaround for the holidays, and its shares down 5 percent.

But the global e-commerce and payments company's fourth-quarter outlook only included a partial contribution from Skype, the fast-growing Web telephone unit it plans to sell in coming weeks. Analysts said that might have made its fourth-quarter forecast appear lackluster to investors.

Investors had warmed to the idea of a comeback by eBay, which is overhauling its main marketplaces division. Since January, the company's stock had shot up 79 percent after years of languishing.

But its forecast on Wednesday put a dent in that confidence, even though executives and analysts highlighted improvements such as more fixed price sales, which helped increase volume on eBay.

"The economy we see stable, and we're cautiously optimistic about consumer spending going into the holiday," said Chief Executive John Donahoe. "What is more important from our standpoint is we actually see some progress on our turnaround metrics."

For the fourth quarter, eBay sees adjusted earnings to range between 38 cents to 40 cents per share. Wall Street had been expecting 40 cents per share. It expects fourth-quarter revenues of between $2.2 billion and $2.3 billion. Wall Street's estimate is for $2.57 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

However, executives said that if Skype's full contribution were to be factored in, on an apples-to-apples basis, its holiday quarter projection called for revenue growth of 11 to 16 percent.

From the year-ago revenue figure, that translates roughly into revenue of $2.35 billion to $2.45 billion -- still short of Wall Street's average estimate.

RBC Capital's Stephen Ju estimates Skype yields $200 million of revenue a quarter.

"EBay has a long history of providing very conservative guidance and then breaking it, but people were hoping for evidence of much more recovery," said Bernstein Research's Jeffrey Lindsay.

WAGING A WAR

Skype aside, EBay faces a fierce price war among retailers on- and off-line during the holidays. Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) pledged on Wednesday "hundreds of millions of dollars" in price cuts each week, pressuring shares in its rivals from Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) to Safeway Inc (SWY.N).

But Donahoe argued the company's decision to focus on the secondary market, with sellers offering out-of-season goods at a discount, would help differentiate it this holiday.

Executives, as well as analysts, pointed to a 7 percent increase in gross merchandise volume -- measuring the dollar amount of all goods sold on eBay -- that was stronger than expected.

While the overall marketplaces unit saw a one percent revenue decline in the quarter, that was a vast improvement over the prior quarter, when it fell 14 percent.

Paypal determines the true winner of disputes on Ebay and sites which paypal is used. Regardless of Paypal's own rules, in writing, paypal can determine when and if a seller is reimbursed after a dispute.

Paypal 76% of the time sides with the buyer.

Logically, there must be sellers in order for buyers to buy.

But buyers know the tricks. DISPUTE. The monetary payment is frozen in the seller acount. The buyer can return item and be refunded. The buyer can also enter a bogus tracking number and be refunded.

Paypal disregards their own terms and deadlines. The allow the buyer extra days to come up with a tracking number. They allow even more days to verify the mostly bogus tracking numbers.

Tracking numbers are given by the USP and can instantly be retrieved via www.usps.com in approximately 3 seconds. Paypal allows an extra 10 days for that.

"There are hopes that the seller will just say forget it and close case."

When that happens, buyer gets a free-be. Seller is still charged the fee and the real MONEY winner is PAYPAL. The government has shown sporadic interest in investigation - but now more and more disgruntled (and rightly so) sellers are lobbying their representatives in the Senate and Congress and change is forthcoming.

"Ebay is failing. It is like a 'buy now' aisle at the convenient store." There are also other online payment brokers.

"Greed and avarice, fraud and misrepresentation will take them both down. It is about time. They are the Acorn of the internet!"

Poor quality of a public domain film - OR not gay enough?

Joseph DeMarco of Amherst NY recently purchased for $4.99 (free shipping) from EBAY "Who Killed Teddy Bear?" starring gay icon, the late Sal Mineo and Juliet Prowse. In the Ebay description, it clearly states the film is "44 years old," "black and white" "indie film" and "public domain." In fact, the opus is sold all over the internet.

Public domain means anyone can sell it. Anyone can package it.

The buyer, Joseph - wants a full refund. But he does NOT want to send the item back. He wants to keep it.

He states it is very poor quality. A valid point. But quality, age - in regards to a "cheap" indie film is subjective, it is art.

If it is poor quality Joseph DeMarco of Amherst, NY - return the item for the refund. Why should the seller "give it to you?" Unless of course, you wanted it for other reasons and now have buyer's remorse or your prurient interest were not fulfilled.

Either way - all America - is it fair to keep it and get a refund? In what Country? What world? You were disappointed - so keep it. And DEMAND a refund.

Try that at Wal-mart. Try that at Blockbuster.

Now it seems - the Seller is contemplating theft of service charges and may contact the Amherst Police. The buyer has filed a dispute with Paypal, the Ebay owned "money broker."

If Paypal has any sense - they will insist the buyer return the merchandise for the refund. Otherwise - what happened to the anti-trust law that would dispute Ebay owning its own source of money collection ... ONLY in America? No. Russia has the same set-up as does China and other socialist, autocratic countries ...

NOTE: Buyer was found to have sent in a bogus USPS tracking number and paypal released payment back to seller. Gay or not gay - who cares - TRUTH wins out!

Madonna kept re-inventing herself.
Michael kept getting involved with allegations of child molestation, pedophilia, etc. He settled out of court for millions on one case. Acquitted on others.
Like many stars - he has a personal life.
He DID not walk on water.
He was a pop star and will be remembered in his early years for being just that.
Factually and historically, like O.J. Simpson, he was accused of and acquitted of crimes in a legal Court with a judge and jury. Regardless of the outcome, we was accused.
That will play a part in his history and in the memory of Michael since the onset of his career.

I knew and remember him when he was black.
Before he wanted to be Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor.
I remember him before he was white.
Before he had his lips and nose fixed.
He made headlines when he had the "tatoo" - permanent ink eyeliner placed on his eye.
I still have those clippings.
That does not diminish him as a gifted performer.
It is just a fact.
MTV was new. And Michael Jackson become "newer" and whiter and plastic surgery ridden as he released every music video.
MTV was also a phenomenon. It helped create stars. The truly talented survived.
They re-invented themselves.
Michael Jackson was a half century old.
No recent releases. No current tunes on the radio.
His record/CD sales were very low.
Now, he passed away and is at peace.
His life was troubled.
He was accused on being a pedophile, a child molester. He settled out of Court and paid millions for one accusation.
The others - he was acquitted.
He had his time and place.
He will be remembered as many a pop star will be.
He was NOT the 2nd coming of Christ.
He did NOT solve world-hunger nor peace.
He unsuccessfully tried to re-invent himself.
He was past the middle-aged mark.

Brian's public relations manager indicates "It might have been the Texas heat. Warner is quite elderly and perhaps should retire gracefully."

"The film is superb. It was instantly re-scripted and better than before." smiles Brian.

"It's actually a love story and tribute to our beloved men and women, Moms and Dads, brothers and sisters, Aunts and Uncles, friends and neighbours, nieces and nephews ... all our true American Heroes ... our soldiers who are fighting and dying for freedom ..." sighs Brian. "These are actually part of the lines Warner objected to. She said them on camera and then a few minutes later ... it really saddens me."

"I'm not sure if Warner is anti-American soldiers or what." continues Brian. "I am honestly confused. They are lines in a movie and she said she was an actress. I guess since her last major role was over 30 years ago, perhaps she forgot."

"After hearing Warner Roberts was fired ... Dallas Hill quit!"

"It was for the best." begins Brian. "They both had to use cue cards. They both cared about how they looked rather than the content of the film." begins Brian.

"I still believe it was highly odd that Warner said she didn't know the direction of the film. As I said, the first shoot had to be canceled because the cue cards I made were too small. The 2nd shoot was June 16th. The cards were LARGER and well, it ended as stated before. Warner insisted she didn't know where the film was headed. She could read the cards, but I guess she really didn't understand them. I mean - they were in English. And it was basically the same script we shot before and the same one she received in the mail. I guess she just didn't understand ... That's all I can think." says Brian.

"I definitely want to be shot when I get to be their age ... having to rely on cue cards and then not remembering what they said right after you said them." Brian goes on. "The film is complete with both of them. We even did a public service spot where say they, Hello, I'm Warner Roberts and I'm Dallas Hill, but somehow they got cold feet."

Prior to "firing" Roberts, Brian sent out snippets of the film to his movie critic friends in NYC. After getting word of what happened, some went on to say: "They weren't living in New York on 9/11. They weren't here. We were. Brian was here. He is a New Yorker. Unless you saw and witnessed America under attack, you don't love or care for America or really understand what was happening. Maybe that's what this Dallas and Warner are all about. Maybe they just don't care."

"I'm glad it worked this way." one critic said. "I saw them in 15 minutes of footage. Brian needs professional actresses, not community theatre players of 40 years ago. The script is too good. They were awful. Brian was seeing them through the eyes of love. If he had released it with them, his vision would have been destroyed with them in the lead. I would have roasted them alive!"

Walgreens is at it again.
LARGE orange SALE SIGNS ... VERY NICE PRICES.
Do not LEAVE store until you triple check your receipt. Better yet, watch the cashier. She is not paying attention to anything except her watch to know when she can have her next cigaret break.
Prices are NOT ringing up as per LARGE tag ... they are ringing up at original prices.
TWICE in three visits ... in three days.
Prior to that, four times in five visits during one week.
EMPLOYEES are NOT over-worked as customers have dwindled for this reason and secondly, the economy.
Walgreens advertises on TV to get customers.
Their employees are in the kitchen and miss the advertisement.
Employees are clueless.
Eventually, jobless for not stocking properly, not paying attention to what is ringing up and the actual price of the item ...
Walgreens just doesn't care anymore.
I hate to say it --- SHOP WAL-MART.
Their prices beat Walgreens ANY DAY or NIGHT. Most are open 24 hours.

This is a letter I wrote to the Corporate Office of WALGREENS today. Please check your receipts if you shop at Walgreens. In this economic times, I hope it is just an oversight that Walgreens is OVERCHARDING customers on their SPECIALS [products on Sale and noted by a LARGE ORANGE CLEARANCE sign on the display]. These items are not on the flyer ... they are obviously in-store clearance and vary from store to store. My items always seem to ring up 17 cents more than the ORANGE SIGN denotes. I just happened to glance TODAY. What about all the many other times ... the other purchases, the other customers. Nationwide, WALGREENS would be making millions, if this is in fact, a bait and switch.

All the manager does is issue you a refund of your overpayment and says to bring in the other receipts. HOW CONVENIENT. Who saves all their receipts. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TRUST the integrity and honesty of this American ICON.

Walgreens makes my heart hurt. It is bad enough I am a senior citizen on a fixed income in avery disconcerting economy. Sadder still, you cannot even trust your neighborhood Walgreens.

Times sure have changed.

Customer loyalty to a retail outlet or restaurant, as brand loyalty to a certain product and manufacturer is ESSENTIAL. It always has been. Especially now, during this time of economic uncertainty,

I have been shopping at Walgreens, throughout the Americas, since I was a child. At this particular Walgreens, I shop almost daily. I have no car. I live a few blocks away. I spend NO LESS than 150.00 per week. TODAY, I spent 56.00.

I am a senior citizen or a fixed income. WE live in a fixed income apt. complex. WE [50+] residents, have weekly meetings. We ALL used to shop at this Walgreens. ONLY this Walgreens do I need a weekly refund of overpayment. The ORANGE tags today for baked beans said 52 cents. When I stepped out the store, TWO I purchased rang up at 67 cents and one 69 cents. I do not care anymore how the other one range up. I already EMAILED and called all the members of our group to get their receipts. THE MANAGER on CALL said to bring back the receipts for refund of overpayment.

WE CONTACTED KXAN NBC News and sent out emails.

THIS PRACTICE IS ILLEGAL. I have been buying ORANGE tagged sale items daily. I rarely check or save a receipt. IS THIS WHAT WALGREENS IS COUNTING ON? They can mark down prices, put a bright bold sign and then when it is paid for - the price is higher.

WE HAVE sent a SIGNED PETITION to the Attorney General Consumer Affairs to investigate this matter. SENIOR CITIZENS, fixed income - ANY CITIZEN, in this economic times EXPECT, no DEMAND that retailers be honest. It is the LAW. Bait and switch is fraudulent and is a crime.

Certainly, it can be an oversight. BUT A WEEKLY mistake by Walgreens and its employees.
You will either lose valued customers who come to shop honestly, or keep employees who are negligent at their job.

YOU CANNOT HAVE BOTH.

We hope to hear from NBC local news to give our side and hope they air this fraudulent practice. Walgreens is an icon. A trusted name.

I believe Alex Jones is doing a major dis-service to those who survived, died, rescued, saved, cried, wept, learned ... from 9/11.

The world wept.

Countries rallied.

America did not terrorize itself. That would be a mockery to those who died.

No powers that be initiated this plot. Nor did they carry it out.

Everyone has to blame someone.

Those who were blamed - admit to their crime.

Until recently, SHE, the 1925 film was released and re-released on video as an exclusively silent film. It has been overlooked. NOW, with digital enhancement and creative originality, it is enjoying a resurgence as a top-seller, offered exclusively on EBAY by Brian Pinette.

Brian discovered a print of the film, digitalized it and added his own original music to it.

"It was a blast!" smiles Brian. "I'm in the middle of the score for both ANNA CHRISTIE with Blanche Sweet as well as QUEEN ELIZABETH with Sarah Bernhardt."

Brian also add: "A lot of people 'restore' with tints, however, Lillian Gish told me the originals were hand-tinted, not just dipped in colours. Today, a lot of people simply do a quick digital wash, meaning the entire frame is a weird colour. Like all red, or all blue ... it is absurd. I would rather leave it in the pristine 'silver screen' black and white."

A little about ... SHE (1925) starring Betty Blythe ...
Betty Blythe (1893-1972) was one of the greatest "stars" of the silent screen. After her phenomenal success in the title role of the Biblical epic "The Queen of Sheba" (1921), followed by such lavish productions as "Chu Chin Chow" (1923) and "She" (1925), Betty was one of the most famous and (until she lost $15 million in the Wall Street Crash) wealthiest Hollywood stars in the world. Her subsequent international vaudeville tours and personal appearances broke box-office records, and her social life and circle of personal friends encompassed many of the most glittering personalities of her time. Her incidental achievements was discovering or helping to promote Ronald Colman, Fred Astaire, and Clark Gable. With the arrival of talkies she continued her film career playing supporting roles in Colleen Moore's "The Scarlet Letter" (1934) and Garbo's "Conquest (Marie Walewska)" (1937). Miss Gardner became a star playing Becky Sharp in Vitagraph's VANITY FAIR (1911). In early 1912, she launched her own independent production company, Helen Gardner Picture Players, and established a studio on the border between Old Tappan, NJ and Tappan, NY. Gardner was the first United States film star to form her own production company. Hers was the first company formed around a single star and the first dedicated solely to the production of full-length feature films, then a new and controversial idea.

Her first independent production was CLEOPATRA (1912), in which she also starred. CLEOPATRA was the country's first full-length, 6000' feature film. It won critical and popular acclaim and played for many years throughout the United States, Britain, Europe, and Russia.
A SISTER TO CARMEN (1913), Gardner's third independent production, was restored by her granddaughter, Dorin Gardner Schumacher, with the help of a grant from New York Women in Film and Television.

Because of the roles Gardner played in CLEOPATRA, A SISTER TO CARMEN and her other productions, she is considered the screen's first vamp. In addition to being an actress and pioneering producer, she was one of the earliest women scenarists, directors, and film editors.

Senile vs. Stupid: McCain & Obama

John McCain: How many homes do you own? "I don't know."
Obama: Do you remember Ted Kennedy and Chappequidick? "Don't you mean the Chatanooga Choo-Choo?"

John McCain is too old and too rich to make a connection with the common man of the U.S.A. He doesn't know how many homes he owns ... And somehow, I do NOT think he knows how many people have lost or who will lose their one and only home.

Obama pitches pipe dreams and ideologies. But realistically, factually and lawfully, the President has no power in changing instantaneously unemployment and the economy.

Large companies and their "executives" will always make more than their employees. They will line their pockets first. The President cannot make employers give more money to employees. The President cannot make companies hire more people at higher wages.

McCain cannot remember how many homes he has, but he can remember being a P.O.W. fifty years ago. His past should be honoured. But it cannot be the reason we entrust OUR future with him.

What are our choices? Who should be our choice to lead this Country?

If you ask the younger generation, depending upon where they live ... South or North ...
Obama paints a good picture. Yet, they do not remember Ted Kennedy and Chappequidick and have no reason to look into it ... They know of the name John F. Kennedy. They never heard of Ronald Reagan, Bette Davis ... and they only know Julie Andrews is the old Queen to that Princess. Some remember her as the lady who comes over the mountain singing.

As for John McCain - again, depending upon where the young person lives ... he is that old man. Or, he is better than the black dude.

2pm ... my 72 year old Mother brought me to Franklin Bank. I needed a paper notarized as part of the documents I needed in order for me to sign my third year lease at Cypress Creek at Lakeline Apartments.

I have had three documents notarized at Franklin Bank, about three years ago, when I lived at Middle Brooks Gardens, which is right behind Franklin Bank.

I lived at Middle Brook three years. I moved to Cedar Park EXACTLY two years after 9/11. I had completed my almost 30 year adventure in New York, and after 9/11, I decided it was time to return to Texas. My folks are here. They live in Lago Vista. My older sister lives in Cedar Park while my younger sister lives in Liberty Hill.

Cedar Park, I learned, now that I have been here almost six years is a delightful mix .... a friendly place.

When I entered the bank, there were no customers. There weren't any customers at the drive-through either. The only people in the bank were three employees. I wonder if they remembered the bank camera was on ... I seemed to have interrupted their "coffee" break.

I smiled and said I needed something notarized. A lady, who later I would find out, whose name was Sylvia responded, "Do you have an account here?"

I told her No, but I have had it done here before. She said that couldn't possibly be true because they only notarize for people who have accounts at Franklin. But, she said she would make an exception.

I followed her into her office. She started looking through my paperwork. "What is this?" she asked.

I responded, "Did you read the first page?"

She said, "No. I'm looking at the other papers."

I started to talk about the neighborhood. How things had changed. She said she was not from around here. She also reminded me that they usually do not notarize for anyone other than people who have accounts. I said I have had it done here before. About three years ago. She said no one was left from those days, not even the manager.

She also said if I had something notarized there before, I wouldn't have signed it first.

I guess being over a half century old, I forgot.

She doubted my honesty twice. I went home, and I found several business cards given to me by the notary who worked at that bank and who had notarized my previous documents some three years ago. It is the ACTUAL Franklin Bank business card with her name, position, and notary.

I was not lying to Sylvia. Sylvia doubted my truthfulness.

I am a Christian. I am mature. I am always respectful. I am FROM AROUND HERE, Cedar Park.

Sylvia was NONE of the above. Maybe she was prejudiced against white people. Maybe she was mad that I interrupted her coffee break. (She did indicate the manager of the bank was not there). Maybe she was mad that she was getting older and that the years had not been so kind to her. Maybe she was mad that she had to drive so far to a job she obviously did not like nor was loyal to.

Or maybe she was mad that she and her gal-pals looked like an ad for low-end Wal-Mart clothing.

All I know is that in a day when banks are closing, people are losing their jobs ... SHE HAD NO RIGHT to be rude and disrespectful to me.

I sent a copy of this to the Corporate office of Franklin Bank as well as the actual business cards of the nice lady employee of Franklin Bank (from three years ago) who said they (Franklin Bank) notarizes for free for "their neighbors in Cedar Park."

I am glad Sylvia is "not from around here."

I would NOT want that ugly, rude lady to be my neighbor.

I think worldwide, Whoopi was at one time respected, loved and admired. People hung onto her every word when she joined the celestial stage of THE VIEW.

I am ashamed to say I was one of the loyal followers.

Whoopi and Sherri - go on and continue to use the NIGGER word. And when one of the little children in my racially mixed apartment complex screams "Nigger" at her little friends ... Everyone can say that "Whoopi says it's okay!"

One something is wrong, and should never have been used in the first place - why is right for some and not others?

Free speech. But free speech, like freedom was never free. All the people who died after being called that word, all those murdered after being called that word ...

How sad that Whoopi and Sherri honour their memories by saying that word.

Roasters in Cedar Park - Neighborhood Friendly?

Upon entry, you look around and it seems nice enough. All the employees are quite young (under 21). They are scurrying to and fro, all smiles. I ordered my coffee and took it outside, in order to drink and continue my addictive cigaret habit. One of their young employees joined me.
I asked if it was nice working here. "It is okay." they said as they lit their cigaret. They told me of the young owners, who hailed from Idaho and Washington and how they are opening another coffee spot. They had one in their previous place of habitation. I asked if they were paid well.
"Hardly. If we work over 40 hours, we don't get overtime, we just get our low hourly pay."
I looked at this saddened young person and thought to myself. "Hmm, the owners aren't even Texans, but they plop themselves in the middle of Cedar Park, pay small wages and to boot, do not give overtime." I sighed and took a drag of my cigaret. I said, "That's nice they are making enough money to open another place."
I smiled as I walked away. "Have a good one." I said.
The employee only nodded.
I thought to myself. "Roasters really isn't a neighborhood place. For somewhere I read, maybe the Bible, 'treat others as you would like to be treated.'
I wonder if those young people will ever be able to open a coffee shack or get their own apartment, surely not on the salary Roasters pay.
When I got home, I realized I hadn't finished my coffee and I just left it there. Yet it really didn't matter.
I was saddened by the entire visit to Roasters.
Somehow, it made my heart hurt.

A Rose is still a rose - by any other name

An ILLEGAL alien is still an ILLEGAL alien, by any other name or terminology. A wetback was used to describe a person who entered this Country ILLEGALLY via the river.
